A free Etsy SEO checker
built for print sellers
Paste your shop URL and get a scored report on every active listing — which ones are invisible in search, and exactly why, with the numbers. No account, no card, about 30 seconds. Built for photographers and artists selling prints and wall art, not for generic Etsy shops.
What it checks
Ten rules, run against every active listing in the shop. These are the actual checks and the actual thresholds — the score is the weighted share of listings that pass each one, so nothing here is hidden behind a paywall or a sign-up.
- 01
Unused tag slots
Etsy gives every listing 13 tag slots and they are free. An unused slot is a search you are simply not entered in.
- 02
One-word tags
One-word tags like "sunset" are the most contested terms on the site. A two- or three-word phrase is where a small shop can realistically rank.
- 03
Tags cannibalising each other
Etsy shows one result per shop per search. Listings drawing from the same small tag pool knock each other out instead of adding up.
- 04
Title length left on the table
Etsy indexes the whole 140-character title. Characters you leave unused are search terms you chose not to have.
- 05
First 40 characters wasted
Ranking weight sits at the front of the title. Opening with your shop name spends it on a search only people who already found you would run.
- 06
Too few photos
Listing completeness is a quality signal, and wall art in particular sells on seeing it framed, on a wall, at scale.
- 07
Blank attributes
Attributes drive the filters down the left of a search page. A blank field keeps the listing out of that filtered result entirely.
- 08
Thin descriptions
The first lines of the description are what Google indexes for the listing page itself.
- 09
Stale listings
Recency feeds Etsy's ranking. Anything untouched for over 90 days reads as abandoned, and an edit is enough to reset it.
- 10
Missing wall-art attributes
Size, material and style are what print buyers filter on. This is the gap generic Etsy SEO tools do not look at.
What you get back
- A score out of 100, and what it means in one sentence.
- Your three biggest problems, each with a real count — not "optimise your keywords".
- Three of your weakest listings rewritten: a new title and a full set of 13 tags, with the reasoning.
- Every listing you have, with the problems found on each. All of it, free.
- A permanent link you can share or come back to. No login.
Why print shops need a different checker
Most Etsy SEO tools count your tags and measure your title length. Those matter — Etsy indexes all 140 characters, and every one of the 13 tag slots is free — but they are the same advice a jewellery shop gets.
Print buyers filter differently. They filter by size, by material, by style, because they are buying something that has to fit a wall and match a room. A listing with those fields blank is not merely ranked lower; it is absent from that filtered result entirely. That check is the one generic tools do not run, and across the shops we have measured it is one of the most commonly failed.
The same goes for photos. A print sells on being seen framed, at scale, on a wall — and shops in this niche routinely use half the 10 photo slots they are given, which is both the most common failure we see and the cheapest to fix.
Questions
- Do I need to connect my Etsy account?
- No. The checker reads the same public listing data any shopper can see, through Etsy's official API. You never sign in, authorise anything, or give us access to your shop.
- Is it actually free?
- Yes, and there is no card. You get the full diagnosis of every listing plus three rewritten listings. Wide Open charges for its listing writer, which turns a photo into a title, description and tags. The audit is free and stays free.
- How long does it take?
- About 30 seconds for a typical shop. You watch the findings appear as they are computed rather than waiting on a spinner.
- What does it check?
- Ten rules covering tags, titles, photos, attributes and freshness — every one of them listed on this page, with the thresholds it uses. Up to 200 listings per shop.
- Can I check a shop that is not mine?
- Technically yes, since it only reads public data. But it is built for your own shop: the rewrites and the weekly rescan only make sense for listings you can edit.
- Will you email me?
- Only if you ask. Leave your address on the report and we re-run the audit weekly, writing only when the score actually moves. One click unsubscribes.
